Of course, there are also cafes that even hardcore junkies miss. As you'll see below, at least half of them are located outside the Central Business District (CBD), but they're just as good as (if not better than) what you'll find within the CBD. To wit, you have:
Ark in Salcedo Cafe + Lounge
Address: G/F Classica1, 112 H.V. Dela Costa, Salcedo Village, Makati City
Opening Hours: 7:30 A.M. – 11:30 P.M. (Monday – Saturday), 10:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M. (Sunday)
Phone Number: (02) 813-7097
If you'd like a cup of coffee that isn't from Starbucks, this is a good alternative. Located within walking distance from Ayala and Buendia Avenues, Ark is a great place to relax before every workday. In case you're in the mood for alcoholic beverages, this cafe has something to offer as well.
Address: 8390 Mayapis St., San Antonio Village, Makati City
Opening Hours: 7:30 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. (Monday – Sunday)
Phone Number: (02) 808-7979
Despite its less-than-glamorous location and ambience, Bon Banhmi is still worth a visit. As the name suggests, their specialty is banhmi — a type of Vietnamese bread that's thinner and airier than what you're used to. You can eat it with all sorts of fillings — pork, chicken, beef, you name it — and accompany your meal with their special Vietnamese coffee.
Address: Valero Plaza Condominium, San Agustin St., Salcedo Village, Makati City
Opening Hours: 8:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M. (Monday – Saturday)
Mobile Number: 0917-651-3951, 0915-798-6788
Now that we're on the subject of Vietnamese food, we'd be remiss not to mention DiCofi. Founded by an actual Vietnamese national, this cafe will make you feel as though you've instantly been transported to one of those coffee houses in Ho Chi Minh. Their offerings range from authentic banhmi and coffee to dishes designed for the Filipino palate like chicken legs with fish sauce.
Cafe on the 6th
Address: 6/F Ascott Hotel, East Drive, Ayala Center, Makati City
Opening Hours: 6:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M. (Monday – Sunday)
Phone Number: (02) 729-8888
Looking for a cafe outside the malls, but inside the Ayala Center? Look no further than Cafe on the 6th. Not only does it have a wide range of dishes from three continents, but it also has the most filling crepes and cakes you'll ever try. Also, if you're unsure what to eat, you can try their aptly and cheekily-named "The Undecided." (Yes, they have an actual dish like that, and no, we're not making it up.)
Kafe Batwan by Sarsa
Address: 122 Joya Lofts & Tower, Amorsolo Drive, Rockwell, Makati City
Opening Hours: 7:00 A.M. – 11:00 P.M. (Monday – Sunday)
Phone Number: (02) 625-5166
Whether you're "Pinoy" or not, Chef JP Anglo's latest venture will blow your mind. Putting a modern spin on beloved Filipino dishes, Kafe Batwan serves everything — breakfast, side dishes, sandwiches, merienda and premium alcoholic beverages, among others. Their batchoy — or noodles flavored by pork organs — are a must-try in particular.
Restock Coffee & Curiosities
Address: 7635 Guijo St., Makati City
Opening Hours: 10:30 A.M. – 10:30 P.M. (Monday – Saturday)
Mobile Number: 0917-663-1011
Tucked in a tiny corner a block away from Chino Roces, Restock is easy to miss. But make no mistake: It deserves a (belatedly given) spot on the list of art galleries in Makati you have to see. Also, the food is great, the ambience is just right, and the location is perfect for those who equate "cafe" with "distraction-free place to work and chat."
Address: 1137 Kamagong St. cor. Chino Roces Ave., San Antonio Village, Makati City 4018
Opening Hours: 11:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M. (Monday – Saturday)
Phone Number: (02) 246-9069
A short distance away from Restock, Satinka Naturals is a relatively new restaurant (having opened only in early 2015). True to their name, they serve only organic dishes, the ingredients of which are sourced from the Kalinga regions in the north. Although the place doesn't exactly "pop out" at you, the interior of Satinka Naturals — not to mention their food — more than make up for it.
Address: G/F 8481 Kalayaan Ave., Makati City
Opening Hours: 12:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M.
Phone Number: (02) 218-6833
Mobile Number: 0917-278-6188
If you go along Rockwell Drive up to the point where it meets Kalayaan Avenue, Screaming Bean is only a couple of blocks away. Their menu is rather limited, and a quick search on Google doesn't turn up much (unless you type something like "screaming bean Makati"). However, their affordable selections and flavorful carbonara make this one of the more underrated establishments in the city.
