Actually, Makati has its quiet, tender side too. If you're an art lover, for example, there are at least eight galleries you can visit in the city. Some are well-known and accessible, while others will require you to look really hard to find them. In no particular order, you have:

In terms of featuring top-class artists, Tin-Aw Art Gallery is one of the most consistent. It usually features paintings, though you'd also find sculptures, videos and other non-wallbound works. Also, they have friendly yet knowledgeable staff, which makes this one a particularly pleasant place to visit.
So far, these are the best of the currently active galleries in Makati City. There were a few others we wanted to feature — like The Drawing Room and Manila Contemporary — but they were either defunct or inconsistent with their offerings. If you know of other active Makati galleries that are worth a visit, and haven't been featured here, let us know in the comments!
