Thankfully, if you're in Manila around February 14, you need not look far to treat your Significant Other (S.O.). In this post, we've put together some of the activities you can enjoy with your beloved on Valentine's Day — on top of anything else you have in mind.
Go sunset-watching at the Manila Bay.
Watching sunsets may be one of the most cliché Valentine's Day activities, but there's a good reason why that is so. At day-end over Manila Bay, for example, you can see various shades of red, orange, and yellow coming together on the horizon and creating one of the most breathtaking sights in nature.
Also, Manila Bay hosts dinner cruises that you can schedule to add that extra "oomph" to your date. You can also dine in one of the many seafood restaurants lining Roxas Boulevard, or be arm-in-arm with your S.O. as you watch the aforementioned boulevard light up come nightfall.
Get wacky at Art In Island.
Want to be a literal work of art? At Art In Island, you can find tons of 3D artworks, where you can take the craziest poses in front of (or inside!) backgrounds like underwater scenes, statues of Greek gods, giant bottles floating on the sea, and so much more. The museum is open from 9:30 A.M. to 9:30 P.M. on Tuesdays through Sundays, and is located at 175 15th Ave., Brgy. Socorro, Cubao, Quezon City.
Play sports at the Makati Cinema Square.
If your S.O. likes to shoot bows and/or guns, there are galleries for both at the Makati Cinema Square along Pasong Tamo. Your S.O. can channel their inner archer at the Kodanda Archery Range, or test their gunslinger skills at the Jethro Shooting Range. And if you feel like shouting "En Garde" while brandishing a rapier-style sword in a skintight suit, give Republic Fencing a try.
Show off your sleuthing skills at Mystery Manila.
Is your S.O. the inquisitive, persistent type who never lets a problem go unsolved? That's going to come in handy at Century City Mall's Mystery Manila. Enter its mystery rooms, pick up and decipher clues, and "escape" the maze before your 60 minutes are up. Otherwise… Well, you'll just have to find that out for yourself. It's a mystery, after all!
Ride a Ferris wheel at the SM Mall of Asia.
Ah, Ferris wheels. The quintessential kindlers of the flames of love. Few things put a couple closer together than being high up in the sky, with only each other for company, inside a slow-moving gondola. The best time to ride MoA's Ferris is during good weather on a sunset, so schedule your ride in advance!
Reserve a table at a cozy restaurant.
No Valentine's Day is complete without a romantic candlelit dinner. In Makati alone, there are 12 places to take your S.O. for a special dinner. We recommend you book ahead of time for most of those places (except La Vie Parisienne, which doesn't accept advance bookings at all) to ensure that your date night will be as wrinkle-free as possible.
Catch a romantic movie or two.
Once you're done with your dinner (or before you have dinner?), head to the nearest cinema to watch the latest movies that'll heighten the romantic mood. Delve into the dangerously sexy world of the bestselling "Fifty Shades Darker," or laugh out loud at comedies like "The Lego Batman Movie" and "Fist Fight." Don't forget to bring your favorite popcorn!
Stroll through a park.
Despite being a metropolitan area, Manila has plenty of sprawling parks to balance out the urban scenery. There's the La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City for mountain bikers, the Luneta Park for history buffs, and Makati's very own Ayala Triangle Gardens, among others. At the Washington Sycip Park in particular, there's a wishing stone where you can write your heart's desires and make them come true. (Hint: Wish to be together with your S.O. forever!)
Book an intimate night together.
Most hotels around the Metro offer special promos around Valentine's Day, so you'd do well to take advantage of them. Look up the ones closest to your destination, visit their websites or Facebook pages, and make your reservations ahead of time. That way, you're sure to get the best room to spend quality time with your S.O.
Of course, the best way to spend Valentine's Day is to enjoy it in a way that only the two of you can. Why go with the crowd, when you and your S.O. can have a special celebration that doesn't look like anyone else's? Dig deeper into the nooks and crannies of the Metro, and you're bound to find something that'll interest both of you.
